How good is your logo, really?

Upload your mark for an instant, honest read on what it actually does: whether people notice it, remember it, and can tell at a glance that it is yours. The free read measures everything the image can reveal. Where only real people can judge, the panel study takes over.

The read runs on your device, free, no sign-up. · These are estimates from the pixels, the panel study confirms them with people.

Logo dos and don'ts

what moves each dimension

✓ Do

  • Commit to one idea. A mark you can describe in a sentence is a mark people can remember. recall, form
  • Test at 16px first. If it holds as a favicon, it holds everywhere. legibility
  • Own a distinctive shape or colour. Be the one your category is not. distinctiveness, colour
  • Make it work in one colour. Solve the silhouette before you add hue. legibility, robustness
  • Balance it optically, not mathematically. Trust the eye over the ruler. form
  • Design it to be redrawn from memory. That is the real memorability test. recall

✗ Don't

  • Cram several concepts in. Two ideas fighting reads as none. recall, form
  • Rely on fine detail or hairlines. They turn to mud when small. legibility
  • Lean on gradients or many colours. If it dies in black and white, it is fragile. robustness, colour
  • Borrow the category's generic cues. A globe for "global," a swoosh for "fast." distinctiveness
  • Use two tones that merge in greyscale. Contrast is what survives. colour, legibility
  • Confuse decoration with distinctiveness. Ornament is not ownership. distinctiveness
